     AIRBUS.
The story of Airbus:
Airbus was founded in 1970 to combat the strong American aircraft
manufacturers, Boeing, and Douglas. The airbus A300 first flew in
1972, and at first, it was not nearly as much of a success as the Boeing Aircraft
that dominated the market. The first airplane that was a major bestseller for
Airbus was its A320. However during an airshow flight of a brand new A320,
The plane was flying at alpha max ( the highest degree of pitch a aircraft can
manage before it stalls.) the plane descended from 100 feet to 20 feet in a matter of
seconds. The plane afterward crashed into the forest outside of the forest, however the
accident was blamed on the pilot, and took a huge load off of Airbus's back. The A320
later evolved into the A320 Family ( A318, A319, A320, A321.). The A320 was the
first civil aviation aircraft to use a system called fly by wire. This system sends
the pilots commands through a computer, to be judged in the computer whether
or not they endanger the safety of the aircraft, and passengers on board, now this
system is used in Boeing, and Airbus aircraft. The most recent airbus to be
put on the market, is the Airbus A380-800, which is now a record holder for largest
commercial airliner ever to be built. Airbus is currently in the process of making its
newest aircraft, the A350XWB. You can find more about the Airbus aircraft at
Airbus.com.

Let's start with the airbus a318 and 19, as they are the first in the Airbus
A320 Family. A site you will certainly want to know about is called Airliners.net .
Statistics:
Length: 31.44 meters
Engines: PW6000A x2 or CFM56-5B x2
Wingspan: 31.10 meters
Passengers: 132

Next let us move on to the airbus A320/21 where the aircraft
in question is much bigger. It also can be found on Airliners.net.
It was the first Airbus aircraft to use the fly by wire system, and
was built when airbus was trying to meet the airline demand for
a 200 seat aircraft. It is now one of the top airline picks in the world.
Statistics:
Length: 37.57
Engines: CFM56-5B x2, V2500-A5 x2
Wingspan: 34.10m
Passengers: 180

The next Airbus on our list is the airbus A330 which
comes in 2 varieties as a passenger aircraft, the -300
and the -200. The -200 can travel a shorter distance,
with less passengers.  Airbus more recently came out
with a new cargo version of the A330-300. Also the A330-300
has its military uses. The -300 series is currently being converted
into a military tanker for refueling military jets during flight.
Statistics:
Length: 63.69 m
Engines: PW4000,
GE CF6-80E1,
RR Trent  700
Wingspan: 60.30m
Passengers: 295

The next aircraft in the  line of airbus aircraft is the Airbus
A340-600,500,400,300.  This is one of the longest range aircraft in the world.
Keep in mind, this is an aircraft that can fly from Singapore to Newark
without refueling! It is not that different from the A330 which was disscussed
earlier in the blog. In fact, the only difference between the two,
is that that A340 has 4 engines, whereas the A330 is what's
known in the industry as a twin engine jet.
Statistics:
Length: 73.36m
Engines: RR Trent 500
Wingspan: 63.45m

Passengers: 380

The final major aircraft on the list is the A380.
This is the newest airbus aircraft. The A380
started as a plane known as the A3XX. It is
currently the largest commercial airliner
ever made. Without  further ado I will now
give you the...
Statistics:

Length: 72.72m
Engines:GP 7200, RR Trent 900
Wingspan:79.75 m

                  Boeing

  The Story of Boeing:

Boeing was founded in 1916 by a millionare by the name Bill Boeing.
In 1917, the seaplane, the B-1 was introduced after WWI. It was light, and made
international postal deliveries between Seattle, and British Columbia, Canada.
The first major Boeing Success was the Boeing Model 247 Airliner, which had
a six passenger cabin. Boeing also had its own branch off airline, United Airlines.
When United's   rival airline TWA requested 6 of the model 247's, Boeing refused,
this would be a mistake that would come back to haunt them. TWA went to a plane designer by
the name of Douglas. Within a few years he came out with a 8 person prop. called
the DC1. This caught all of the airlines attentions, as it offered more cabin space, and
therefore more passengers, it resulted in an early death to Boeing's Model
247, and that haunted them there after. Boeing went on to build the B29 Superfortress,
which dropped the atom bomb on Japan, the 707, the world's first ecinomically
realistic passenger jet, after the failure of the DeHallivand Comet, and the 747,
which at the time was considered to big to fly. Its newest release is the
Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The first Boeing jet airliner is the Boeing 707, after
the failure of the DeHallivand Comet, it was the first
successful jet airliner, along with the Douglas DC-8.
It was so successful, that the U.S. government used it as
Air Force One. It is so old, that the Boeing website does not
have any details, or specifications on this airplane. I do however
have the Statistics off of our old friend Airliners.net.
Statistics:
Length: 44.07m

Engines: Pratt & Whitney JT3D-1 turbofans.
Wingspan: 39.90m
Passengers: 179 passengers (max.)

The next actually Boeing made plane is the Boeing 727,
with most airlines, it is really popular, but is now obsolete.
Nowadays few airlines actually use the 727, and it's mainly used in
cargo services. Once again, we turn to Airliners.net . The 727 has the

classic nose structure as the 737, and the 707. It is one of the most
famous of all of the Boeing aircraft, and is depicted in many cartoons, along with
the  Douglas DC-10.
Statistics:
Length:40.59m
Engines:Pratt & Whitney JT8D-7 turbofans.
Wingspan: 32.92m

Passengers: 131 ( maximum)

The next in the line of Boeing aircraft, is the 737,
it is even today the world's most successful airliner.
Boeing is currently beginning to create a new series
of 737, the 737 MAX, and the 737-900. The 737 is known
as one of the safest aircraft you can fly. The most recent fatal
crash of a  737 was outside of  Amsterdam Schipol in
2009, because of a faulty altimeter giving conflicting data
to the auto-thrust system, and stalling the aircraft at 8,000 ft.
Statistics:
Length: 28.67m
Engines: Pratt & Whitney JT8D-7 turbofans.

Wingspan: 28.35m
Passengers:115

Next is the biggest plane that Boeing has to offer,
the Boeing 747. This is probably the most famous Boeing
aircraft in the world. Here is a picture of it:

Now for every bodies favorite part, the...

  1. Boeing is my least favorite, because
in their fly by wire planes, the pilot
can over ride the system therefore defeating
    the point.

  2. This is a very interesting blog! Can you remind me of what country the Airbus company is from?
Are all your subject airplanes passenger jets? When were passengers first riding in planes?
Thanks for the great information. Have you put tags on the blog yet?
